A Healing Retreat with Sound Bath and Gentle Yoga on the Mendocino Coast of Northern California

Real healing rarely happens on a deadline. It asks for space, quiet, and permission to move at its own pace, which is exactly what a healing retreat in the redwoods provides. Into The Unknown: A Three-Day Immersion to Rewild Yourself unfolds November 12-15, 2026, Thursday through Sunday, on the Mendocino Coast of Northern California. Created and guided by Katie Hunt, this three-night immersion honors the slower rhythms of authentic transformation, no quick fixes, no dramatic promises, just enough space to finally listen. Healing at the Pace of the Forest

Many of us arrive at a healing season of life the same way: worn thin. We have checked the boxes, met the responsibilities, and cared for everyone around us, yet something essential feels out of reach. We crave more presence, more connection, more aliveness.

Into The Unknown was created for that moment. Rather than offering overnight change, this healing retreat believes that healing often begins by creating enough space to simply listen, to your body, your heart, your intuition, and the natural world around you. Three days among old-growth redwoods provide that space in a way few environments can.

The retreat welcomes all genders, 18 and older, including complete beginners. Whether you are navigating a life transition, recovering from burnout, or searching for greater purpose, you belong here. You do not need to have all the answers before you arrive. In many ways, that is the point.

The Practices Woven Through This Healing Retreat

No single practice defines Into The Unknown. Instead, the healing arc comes from a thoughtfully curated blend of experiences, each one an invitation rather than a demand.

Gentle yoga opens each morning beneath the trees, designed for a variety of experience levels so that every body can participate comfortably. Guided meditation and breathwork follow, settling the mind and creating a calm foundation for the day. If you have never meditated before, you will be in good company, no experience is required.

Evenings deepen the work. A sound bath invites you to lie back while resonant tones wash over the room, an experience many find profoundly restful. Research is still young, but early findings are encouraging. The Cleveland Clinic notes that people commonly report feeling calmer, more relaxed, and less tense after sound bath sessions, with some studies suggesting improvements in mood and sleep. Group hypnosis and a cacao ceremony with guided dance round out the evening offerings, balancing stillness with celebration.

Woven throughout are a forest healing walk, a beach ceremony on the Pacific, scheduled silent reflection, and group and partner activities that build genuine connection. Together, these practices gently challenge the stories you have been carrying about yourself for years, and make room for new ones.

Meet Your Guide: Katie Hunt

Katie Hunt is the creator and guide of Into The Unknown. Her style pairs gentle movement, guided practices, ceremony, and honest conversation, all offered at a pace that lets each participant listen inward.

Katie welcomes beginners warmly; no background in meditation, spirituality, or personal development is required at her retreats. Her intention is that every guest leaves with more than beautiful memories, returning home with meaningful friendships, renewed inspiration, practical tools for everyday life, and a deeper relationship with themselves.

A Container Built for Healing: The Spirit Camp Setting

The environment matters enormously in healing work, and Spirit Camp may be the most naturally suited healing sanctuary in Northern California. This 27-acre property sits in the coastal redwoods of Mendocino County, minutes from the Pacific Ocean.

The Sanctuary, an architectural gem with a copper roof, central skylight, and twenty-foot south-facing windows, seems designed for sound and stillness. Rain on the copper roof becomes part of the meditation. The Redwood Lodge, warmed by a stone fireplace and a wood-burning stove, hosts shared meals of organic, locally sourced vegetarian cuisine crafted to support retreat work. At night, fire circles glow in Magic Meadow beneath a rare break in the redwood canopy.

Just as important is the culture of the place. Spirit Camp is substance-free, trauma-aware, and owned by a queer couple who have built a body-positive, inclusive environment where all guests feel welcomed and seen. Everything about the setting says the same thing: you are safe here, take your time.

Where This Retreat Lives: The Mendocino Coast

This Mendocino healing retreat takes place in Little River, on the Northern California coast, about ten minutes from the historic town of Mendocino. The drive itself begins the unwinding, winding through forests and along the coastline as city noise fades behind you.

Spirit Camp sits approximately three hours North of San Francisco and Oakland, and about two hours from Santa Rosa. For anyone in Northern California seeking a transformational retreat without international travel, few destinations offer this combination of accessibility and natural grandeur. Check the full retreat calendar for other dates if November does not fit your season.

Two Healing-Friendly Stops in Mendocino County

Glass Beach in Fort Bragg

A short drive north brings you to Glass Beach, where decades of tumbled sea glass sparkle among the pebbles at the water's edge. The story of the beach is itself a quiet metaphor for healing: what was once discarded has been polished by time and tide into something beautiful.

Visit at low tide for the best viewing, and remember that the glass stays on the beach for the next visitor. The adjacent coastal trail offers wide ocean views and easy, contemplative walking.

The Skunk Train Redwood Route

Departing from Fort Bragg, the historic Skunk Train has carried passengers through towering redwood groves for over a century. The unhurried pace of rail travel suits a healing weekend perfectly, letting the forest drift past while you simply watch.

Seasonal offerings include open-air cars and railbike experiences along Pudding Creek. It is a gentle, memorable way to spend a few extra hours among the trees before heading home.
