Weather

Dress warm! Though we’re in California, this ain’t LA ;). The Mendo coast has temperate weather year round. It’s generally sunny and mild in summer, and cold and wet in winter, with a chance of fog magic anytime. Please dress warm and cozy with layers even in summer months. Space heaters are available in every cabin, and we have wood burning stoves to keep you toasty and warm in The Lodge and The Sanctuary.

Summer Season (May-October): Typically sunny or foggy, daytime is 60-72°F (15-22°C), night is 48-55°F (8-13°C)*

Winter Season (November-April): Typically cold or rainy, daytime is 45-60°F (7-15°C), night is 35-45°F (1-7°C)*

*Please note: Coastal humidity is high making it feel cooler than the temperature reads.

Wifi & Cell Service

Verizon and AT&T work at camp while other providers do not.

Wifi is available. We encourage everyone to disconnect from tech during retreats, however you’re welcome to use it during work remote weeks.

Service is spotty on the drive up, so be sure to download your map and directions ahead of time!

Camp Animals

Pets

The owners and stewards of Spirit Camp, Nathaniel and Julian, live on the land full time in the caretakers home with their friendly dog Disco, a big bernedoodle pup, and outdoor hunting cat, Cadabra. Disco’s an excitable, goofball camp mascot-in-training. Help us socialize him by engaging calmly and practicing our training cues. Please don’t feed or tease him as that’ll set back his hard training work.

Wildlife

Camp is surrounded by unfenced wilderness. You’ll meet lots of flying creatures from hummingbirds, bees and butterflies in the garden to enchanting ravens and bats at night. Deer, fox, and other animals are known to occasionally pass through, typically at night to avoid people. Please store all food in the Lodge (not in cars, cabins, or tents) to avoid attracting the neighborhood bear.

Camp Customs

To create a healing, sacred space where authentic and playful connection can emerge amongst guests, we ask all visitors to honor and observe the following during their time at Spirit Camp:

  • Spirit Camp is a substance-free space. No alcohol, cannabis, narcotics, or entheogenic substances are permitted on property.

  • Our camp kitchen is a vegetarian facility. The presence of any animal products in our spaces is not permitted, which includes meat and fish. Dairy and eggs are okay.

  • The property is a non-smoking space. Smoking is not permitted in or around any of our buildings or trees. For tobacco use, please use the designated tobacco smoking area located in the parking lot.

  • Spirit Camp is a fragrance-free facility. We ask that you not wear heavy colognes/perfumes during your stay due to allergy sensitivities. Spirit Camp may use its own all natural, high quality incense or essential oil sprays.

  • Please leave your furry friends at home. Because of pet allergies, sensitive environment and wildlife, we have a no-pet policy, except for trained service animals or dogs invited for a playdate with the camp dog, Disco Wizard.

  • Please participate in keeping the communal spaces clean and organized, especially the kitchen with dishes after each meal. Please treat our land and spaces like they are a home you love.

Camp Culture

Spirit Camp is a place to practice reciprocity through community collaboration and land stewardship. Teamwork makes the dream work baby.

Fire Tending

When you arrive at camp, please find a staff member to show you how to use our wood burning stoves and where to find logs.

Fires are only permitted in our two wood burning stoves (in The Lodge and The Sanctuary) and two designated campfire pits. Campfires are not permitted on windy days. Fire safety guidelines must be followed at all times.

Communal Gatherings

Join in the set up and clean up of group meals and programming. Please proactively ask where you can help and find your flow together.

Leave No Trace

  • Leave each space better than you found it for the next person.

  • Help in the kitchen with dishes and cleaning after every meal.

  • Be aware of where you set down your belongings, mugs, etc.

  • Take all leftovers and food you brought home with you.

  • Leave nothing behind but footprints in the forest.
