What’s a Work & Play Weekend?

W&P Weekends at Spirit Camp provide a super affordable way to experience the magic of breathwork and the redwoods. We offer them seasonally to create regular opportunities for our community to self-heal and cultivate reciprocity with the land.

After a lot of experimentation over the last two years, we’ve improved the way we have work exchange gatherings. From that learning, here is how we are structuring this upcoming one:

YOU GIVE:

  • 4 hours of volunteer support on Saturday between 9am and 1pm (with lunch after). We have a range of activities from light gardening to lifting and moving wood. Projects vary per season in service on the needs of the land.

  • Contribute $75-105 towards food + bedding laundry.

YOU GET:

A bed in a cozy cabin. All the cabins are now beautifully renovated and include linen comforters—a big upgrade from where we started 2 years ago.

*OR*

Space to pitch your own tent in our camping meadow (only from April-October).

Spirit Camp Raven Roost Cabin

A group transformational breathwork journey Sunday morning. Julian and Nathaniel love sharing this powerful inward healing modality from their teacher training with David Elliott.

Some meals provided:

  • Light breakfast on Fri and Sat.

  • Two big organic vegetarian-paleo based meals — lunch on Sat and brunch on Sun.

  • Coffee, tea and snacks all weekend.

For your other meals you can cook in the huge industrial kitchen, or get food in town 10 minutes away—we have great restaurants and grocery stores nearby! Find our local recs at the bottom of the page HERE.

Spirit Camp Retreat Dinner

Full access to camp to create fun with your fellow Work & Play campers. The lodge is always ready for a dance party, and tea n’ tarot in the sanctuary. We’ve also added a mile-long rugged hiking trail through 27 acres of redwood forest.

We invite you to co-create a fun time with us. Bring your creative gifts like an instrument, your voice, or other offering to share if you’d like!

Spirit Camp Retreat Group

Free time to explore the Mendocino coast! We’re 12 minutes from the historic town of Mendocino with great coffee shops, restaurants, sandy beaches, hiking trails, and walks on the bluff for sunset.

Travel Timing

To fully enjoy the camp as much as possible we invite you to come up as early as Thursday evening and stay through Monday if you have the work flexibility!

We just ask that you be at camp by 9pm on Friday latest and stay until at least 1pm Sunday afternoon.

Please note that the drive is at about 3 hours North from the Golden Gate Bridge.

CARPOOLING: Since unfortunately there’s no good public transportation to the Mendo coast, carpooling is highly recommended. If you’re able to, please offer a seat or two. We’ll help everyone coordinate carpooling a few days before and connect folks via text!

Camp Customs

To create a peaceful, sacred atmosphere where authentic and playful connection can emerge amongst campers, we ask all guests to honor and observe the following during their visit:

  • Spirit Camp is a substance-free space. Please leave at home all recreational, medicinal, and ceremonial drugs or alcohol.

  • Spirit Camp is a non-smoking space. Smoking is not permitted in or around any of our buildings or trees. For tobacco use, please use the designated tobacco smoking area located in the parking lot.

Please see additional camp customs on the Preparing for Camp page.m

  • "Between lifting, sorting, organizing, and chainsawing, I got a wide variety of experiences during the work project day. It was a nice mix of solo and team work that allowed for some socializing. The dancing at night and the breathwork in the morning really made for an awesome, unwinding experience and I loved how centered I felt afterwards."
