Men’s Work & Somatic Techniques

Powerful Practices to Communicate Authentically

Men’s Work is a body of practices and rituals that help male-identified people own their authentic selves and embody their unique expression of manhood beyond societal expectations or stereotypes.

Throughout history, our ancestors have always shared space to tell stories and commune as a way to survive and even thrive as community. During the retreat, we’ll reconnect with these vital ways of being together.

Seasoned Men’s Coach Mike Sagun will guide us in practices to deepen our connection to the truth of our bodies and emotions by sitting in circles, sharing from our hearts, and supporting each other to be more whole, authentic versions of ourselves.

His work is anchored in the science of the nervous system which he weaves through his range of embodiment facilitation practices to create a deeper understanding of how this central system of our body is running much of the subconscious programming of our day-to-day lives.

“Mike is a master of his craft. The opportunity to spend three days with him in a group was just what I needed in order to reinvigorate the work I have been doing.

I recommend this program to any man who feels stuck, or has plateaued in their growth journey.”

- Dan

Transformative Breathwork

Deep Healing for the Mind, Body & Spirit

A powerful self-healing practice, Transformative Breathwork is an active form of meditation using a simple breath pattern to move stuck energy in the body and reconnect with your true essence.

Similar to holotropic and rebirthing breath, this practice works especially well for those of us with very active minds.

group breathwork image in healing sanctuary at Spirit Camp

If you are seeking a meditation or mindfulness retreat experience, be prepared to be blown away (pun intended) by the powerful effects of this simple practice. Breathwork can help transcend the mind to experience new states of reflection and energetic flow.

Whether you lean toward spirituality or science as your core governing system, this breathwork practice is a beautiful bridge between both of these complimentary worldviews. Some have psychedelic-like experiences through this modality, and find it an incredibly powerful method for rebooting the nervous system and reconnecting with one’s soul.

Private breathwork booking with clients for a groups breathwork in the Spirit Camp healing center
  • During a transformative breathwork journey, we’ll begin with an opening circle to ground our energy in the space, connect as a group, and review the breathing technique. Writing prompts or authentic relating breakout groups are then offered in longer sessions to intentionally deepen the healing experience.

To begin breathwork, you’ll lie down comfortably with pillows, blankets, and eyes closed (eye mask recommended). For 25-45 minutes, Julian Hunter and Nathaniel Reagan will guide the group in practicing a simple breath pattern accompanied by music and prompts.

Activating the power of your own breath, your body can naturally release stuck energy and emotions, and bring the mind into a heightened state of awareness, followed by inner stillness and intuitive insight.

We’ll close in circle to reconnect as a group and optionally share to further integrate experiences.

Expert breathwork duo Julian Hunter and Nathaniel Reagan will facilitate a group breathwork journey each day on the retreat.

Weaving together their opposite yet complimentary approaches, a strong, clear container of safety is establish for men with diverse backgrounds to be able to dive deep into this healing work together.

“Breathwork with Julian and Nathaniel left me energized with a renewed zest for life.

I shed emotional burdens I was carrying and unable to resolve. I felt deeply at peace with greater self-love and self-respect than when I arrived.

Overall, the experience of breathwork was spiritually liberating and healing! ”

Embracing the Elements to Reawaken Authentic Joy

River Reset Ritual

Cold Plunging with Intention

Together we’ll reset our nervous systems by plunging into the healing benefits of cold water at a nearby river on the Mendocino coast. Paired with energy work and affirmation practices, this ritual will also reenergize our connection with our higher selves.

The science is showing the ancestral wisdom of working with water. Cold plunging is shown to unlocking dopamine and serotonin in the body, which play a crucial role in regulating emotions and stress.

Men’s Fire Ceremony

Oxytocin is to our bodies as oxygen is to fire. We’ll commune around the campfire and reconnect with our authentic joy through ceremony, song and stories.

Working with the fire element, we’ll transmute what’s not serving us, reawaken the child-like joy within, and deepen our sense of belonging and brotherhood.

Facilitated by Nathaniel “Nay Nay” Jenkins

On this retreat, transformational healer and Reiki coach, Nathaniel “Nay Nay” Jenkins, will guide us in his unique cold plunging and fire ceremony offerings with his infectious joy and enthusiasm.

He’ll help us explore parts of ourselves long awaiting to be discovered, setting the stage to become more whole and authentically joyful in daily life.

“Nathaniel Jenkins is an exceptional healer and teacher. His workshop has helped me to open up and connect to deeper aspects of myself. I learned and experienced a lot in a short time.

Nathaniel’s warm nature and enthusiasm is contagious. He makes the workshop engaging and interactive. It is amazing how much working with him has changed my life for the better.”

About Your Retreat Facilitators:

  • I’m a Certified Professional Men’s Coach. I have a BA in Education from San Jose State University and spent 10 years as a teaching artist working with young people who suffered from different social & emotional challenges. I’ve trained with Challenge Day, Lincoln Center Education in NYC, Bi-Jingo, Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), and EVRYMAN. I’m currently in Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing 3 year professional training program.

In 2017, I delivered a TEDX TALK about the need for young people to have trusted adults in their lives. Through the work I’ve done, I quickly realized that we need more healed adults to help heal young people. And in 2018 I quit my corporate job and became a full-time men’s coach. I’ve partnered with companies like DropBox, LinkedIn, Google, Kaiser Permanente, TATLAB, Saje Wellness, Rhone, and Men’s Health Magazine.

Since 2017, I’ve been facilitating retreats and it’s a huge part of my life’s work. Retreats really energize me and I’m excited for you to experience this one. When I’m not working with people 1:1, hosting virtual programs, or at a retreat, you’ll most likely find me hanging with my husband and dog either in the kitchen or in our garden.

  • I’m a licensed clinical massage therapist, energy healer and Reiki Master practicing and living in Oakland, California.

My one-on-one healing sessions and group workshops are designed to create a container of safety for anyone who struggles to feel safe in their body, with emphasis on the BIPOC community and those who have been historically othered. My practice is centered around discovering what the body wants and needs in order to encourage its natural ability to heal.

I intend to empower each client to be in full agency in their own body and to trust in self, in the body’s wisdom and in the ability to assert boundaries. Working with the chakra system from the root to the crown, I teach my clients to ground their energy within a safe container, and to come into greater self expression, joy, sensuality and vitality. I focus on grounding meditation, healing breathwork, stimulating the parasympathetic autonomic response with deep tissue integrative work, range of motion opening, pain relief and rocking: all designed to feel good in the body off the table.

Through my JEDI work, I share knowledge and practices to liberate the Black body, heal the nervous system and release identification around systemic injustice. I graduated from the San Francisco School of Massage & Bodywork with over 850 hours of clinical training, I’m a certified Reiki Master, and a leadership facilitator.

  • I’m a certified breathwork coach, meditation teacher, sound practitioner, and co-creator of Spirit Camp. Since 2012, I’ve facilitated, assisted and organized retreats internationally.

My purpose is to guide creative entrepreneurs to become conscious leaders for their communities. I love to study and share traditional knowledge and healing practices that empower people to create more meaningful work and healthy relationships.

My healing journey began in 2009 when I learned Vedic Meditation and it changed my life—reduced anxiety, insomnia, and stress to levels I didn’t know were possible. Called to share this powerful practice, I paused my engineering career to train intensively in India and in 2014 began teaching meditation to busy folks with creative lives. After seeing big results, I expanded my offerings to include breathwork and sound meditation to guide clients deeper into healing work.

In 2021, my partner Nathaniel and I created Spirit Camp for people to experience the magic of retreats in the redwoods.

  • Margaret Mead's timeless wisdom, "Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world," has been the driving force behind my life's work. I hold a BA in Organizational Communications, a degree that has paved the way for a career focused on mobilizing campaigns and grassroots movements. Notably, I spent over five transformative years as an HIV advocate in Mozambique, where I played a pivotal role in catalyzing a national movement that reshaped perceptions of HIV, ushering in collective change.

In my professional journey, I have cultivated a unique talent for tapping into collective energy, guiding the creation of organic, emergent spaces for collaborative healing and growth. My toolkit encompasses a rich array of modalities, including family constellations, quantum healing, reiki, astrology, Vedic meditation, and extensive training in Neuro Linguistic Programming-based techniques.

My personal healing journey has led me through a labyrinth of modalities and experiences that I now seamlessly integrate into my work with individuals and organizations. Movement and somatic healing have become integral to my daily rituals, and wherever I travel, I immerse myself in the local ecstatic dance and 5 rhythms communities, infusing the joy of dance into my healing facilitation.

Breathwork has played a transformative role in my life, offering profound clarity on my soul's desires and aiding me in shedding addictions and habits that obstructed the realization of my heart's desires. To make this potent practice more accessible, I completed extensive training with David Elliott and obtained my breath practitioner certification through Yoga Body.

Currently, I am actively pursuing certification as a Gene Keys guide, an endeavor that fills me with enthusiasm. I relish the opportunity to introduce people to this remarkable body of knowledge, which has rekindled my hope for the positive changes unfolding within humanity.

Retreat Reviews

✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

This, by far, was my favorite retreat experience. The facilitators were amazing! Each had brought their own special magic to the retreat.

We did a deep dive into men's somatic emotional awareness to learn more about ourselves and have compassion for others.

The breathwork was invigorating, which inspired me to bring it home to my own community. We also did ecstatic dancing, cold plunges in the ocean, new movement exercises, and enjoyed some really incredible vegetarian food prepared in-house.

Last but not least, the retreat grounds were spectacular! Spirit Camp is nestled on 27 acres of beautifully landscaped redwood forest near the coast of Mendocino with hiking trails and open sunny meadows.

Whether you're looking for an energizing retreat or just a relaxing vacation in the peaceful woods, Spirit Camp is definitely the place to experience it.

It’s not often that you find a place so magical and breathtaking.

The cabins and all facilities on this property are clean, exceptionally maintained and the beds oh so cozy!

Only minutes away from Mendocino, this is a great place to stay for either a retreat or just to get away and relax. Julian and Nathaniel and their dog “Disco” are most welcoming and the best hosts you will ever meet!

Phenomenal land just within a mile of the ocean, so you get that nice combination of ocean + forest vibe.

I was here for an incredible, unforgettable retreat. Just like summer camp, but for adults!

The design of the gardens, entrance, and buildings are really quite pleasing and feng shui on another level.

Driving into Spirit Camp was a moment that left me in complete awe. As a chef who specializes in plant-based cuisine, I had heard about the buzz in the community and had to experience it for myself. The surroundings were absolutely magical, from the towering redwoods to the beautiful property that surrounded me.

The hosts, Julian and Nathaniel, were insightful, grounded and had an incredible vision for the space. They made me feel right at home from the moment I stepped out of my vehicle. The attention to detail was simple yet elegant, creating an inviting atmosphere that was impossible not to feel connected to.

I chose to stay in a tent and was lulled to sleep each night by the calming sound of the waves crashing on the nearby beaches. The mornings were filled with the songs of the birds, creating an amazing sense of peace and tranquility.

The incredible commitment to sustainability and a plant-forward kitchen was evident in every aspect of Spirit Camp. The garden-to-table offerings on the menu are a testament to their dedication to creating a sustainable planet.

For anyone searching for a meditative retreat from the chaos of everyday life, Spirit Camp is the perfect destination.
